CAPSULE COLLECTION DESIGNER

Tucson has been my home since I was born, but I find myself discovering new things about my hometown all the time. Originally I sought out to be in the field of graphic design during high school, but my interests turned toward fashion due to my discovery of the famous designer Alexander McQueen, my senior year. Instantly I was taken aback by such beauty and how closely linked the two worlds were.

Shortly after graduating, I began attending the Art Institute of Tucson, and received my bachelor's degree in fashion design. Throughout the three years I attended, I found my strength and love for pattern making. I developed my eye for line and shape even more, and used my background in graphics very heavily. Using inspirations such as architecture, as well as a heavy influence of music. In addition to finding and developing my skill, I began to find myself, and through that, found the kind of clothing I wanted to put out into the world. I've always found it rather strange that clothing had to have a gender and be only worn by those genders. Why did certain pieces have to be restricted to male or female? Those questions and desire for more feminine menswear and more masculine womenswear, and overall non-gender based clothing is where I found my entire philosophy.

ANINE PAULSEN

CAPSULE COLLECTION DESIGNER

Anine is an emerging fashion designer based in Tucson, Arizona, who will have her debut show at Tucson Fashion Week. Growing up with a grandmother who has been sewing her whole life, Anine quickly became interested in learning how to construct clothes, and made her first “bed sheet dress” at the age of 10. Throughout the years her passion for design and fashion has only grown.

Today she runs aninepaulsen.com, where she publishes everything she makes, as well as a boutique on Etsy. Anine’s latest designs have been highly inspired by the culture, art, and people of Tucson, a city she quickly fell in love with. With bold colors, a mix of prints and textures, and a fun and 90’s reminiscent flare, Anine’s clothes are meant to brighten up the everyday-girl’s wardrobe. Without taking fashion too seriously, she is able to create really unique and one-of-a-kind pieces that represent the strong and independent woman of today’s society.

CHRISTOPHER PAPE

CAPSULE COLLECTION DESIGNER

Christopher Pape, a US Army veteran who served in Afghanistan, spent a lot of time looking at some of the ugliest sights in the world. During his military service the thought of home kept him going. He lived in Tucson for eight years prior to joining the military. Once he ended his service I moved back to Arizona and spent some time in Phoenix, but it wasn't until he moved back to Tucson that he felt like he had truly come home. In Tucson, felt connected to the culture and diverse lifestyles in this part of the Southwest, and was inspired by the juxtaposition of the natural environment.

In design his primary inspiration comes from vintage couture and pop culture styling, as well as industrialism, fetish fashion and ultra luxe materials such as fur and feathers. He is inspired by diverse designers such as Australians Wayne Cooper and Alannah Hill, UK designer Gareth Pugh, as well as Harajuku streetwear and J-rock from Japan. He works primarily with latex and is fascinated by the incorporation of this traditionally fetishistic material in both couture and ready-to-wear fashion.
